The business was founded in 1952 by John Joannides and Costas Paschalis, who opened a small food shop near London’s West End. As the Cypriot and Greek communities grew in the city, so did the demand for traditional foods from home. John and Pascalis responded by importing goods directly from Cyprus and Greece, quickly earning a reputation for quality and authenticity.

By the late 1960s, the company had become one of the first in Britain to import fresh produce from Cyprus, including okra, aubergines, and Jerusalem artichokes. The business also played a part in supplying the early Indian restaurant trade with key ingredients, helping to shape the diverse food scene that the UK is known for today.

Over time, John and Pascalis expanded its range to include products from across the Mediterranean and the Middle East. While the company has grown, the core values have stayed the same — sourcing traditional, high-quality ingredients from trusted producers. Many of our supplier relationships have lasted for decades, built on mutual respect and a shared commitment to good food.
